• Reboot schedule for bbs

    How often do you reboot your BBS PC? I was just curious. I stopped my board Sunday for a 15 minute backup and did a reboot afterwards.

    These days I rarely reboot mine. I'm currently running my BBS on Linux, and I don't know how much difference that makes, but I've often let it run for a long time and it seems okay. Usually I only reboot the PC when I do a software update that involves an OS kernel update.

    I reboot it whenever I update, which depends on how many updates there
    are. I don't schedule any sort of reboot.
    If you're worried about corruption of message bases, you can go through
    and lock them all before doing an update.
    smbutil options
    L = lock a msg base for exclusive-access/backup
    U = unlock a msg base
    You'll obviously have to loop through all the bases, or you can just
    take your chances.

    How often do you reboot your BBS PC?

    Probably about once a week... but it isn't done automatically anymore... just when I feel like it.

    Years ago, when my ISP liked to change my IP address whenever they felt like it, I had it automatically rebooting once a day.

    My answer would be the same as this... I only reboot when there is some OS upgrade where I believe it is required or a good idea. Otherwise, I try
    not to reboot it.
